Miss Teen USA is ditching the swimsuits.
The pageant, a sister show to Miss Universe and Miss USA for 15-19 year olds that’s been running since 1983, is dropping the skimpy outfits in favor of athletic wear, according to USA Today.
The move aims to “celebrate women’s strength, confidence and beauty,” according to a memo to state directors of the pageant from Miss Universe president Paula Shugart.

The change takes effect immediately and in time for this year’s contest on July 30 in Las Vegas. Shugart further explained the thinking behind the move in her note.
